CERTIFICATE/DIPLOMA IN COUNSELLING SUPERVISION
Course overview
This short programme equips counsellors with the necessary skills, knowledge and professional development to enable them to provide supervisory support and guidance to counsellors in clinical practice.


Who is the programme for?
This programme is suitable for those:
Who are qualified in counselling with a minimum of a diploma and are currently seeing clients
Who have at least two to three years of post-qualifying experience and have gained between 300–350 hours of practical client experience
The Diploma in Counselling Supervision was approved by the Association of Christian Counsellors as meeting their criteria/standards/Christian content in 2014, enabling delegates to apply for accreditation with the ACC as a supervisor (once other qualifying criteria have been met).
Please note that awarding accredited status is at the discretion of the awarding body.
Programme content
This programme includes:
Understanding the roles, responsibilities, tasks and complexities of supervision
Considering ethical and legal responsibilities of supervision, including boundaries and contract issues
Developing the necessary skills to establish an effective working alliance
Sustaining a supervision session with a counsellor or a group of counsellors
Analysing and self-evaluating the supervisory process, including own practice of supervision
Understanding group dynamics and complexities of group supervision
Managing issues of difference and diversity

How long is the programme?
This programme is taught in two parts: the Certificate (Stages 1 and 2) and the Diploma (Stages 3 and 4).
Due to the structure of the programme, delegates must complete all four stages in order to qualify for the internal award of a Diploma in Counselling Supervision.
All four stages amount to 60 hours of tutor training, the number of training hours required by the Association of Christian Counselling (ACC) in order to accredit as a supervisor.
