CONTEMPORARY DISCIPLESHIP
Course overview
When Jesus gave us this commission, He chose His words wisely. Make disciples – not converts, believers or nominal Christians. Disciples are what He wants, and that requires discipleship. But it’s really difficult to know how to effectively go about discipleship, both on a one-to-one level and on a cultural, visionary level.
This one-year, online course will give you the skills you need to bring about an effective culture and practice of discipleship in your context. One that authentically supports people while helping them grow in Christ. The complexities of the contemporary world mean that there is so much to grapple with when it comes to discipleship, and this course does not shy away from these issues but instead explores them and unpacks practical tools. With each session, you’ll be empowered and inspired to bring change and fulfil the Great Commission that Jesus gave us in your setting. The effects? ‘Thy Kingdom come.’
On completion of the course, students can apply to become an accredited Waverley Abbey Minister. This is a partnership between Waverley Abbey Ministries and Churches in Communities. The application is a separate discernment process after the course. It will assess the student’s experience and learning to date, which could lead to ordination after a successful post-graduation year in ministry.
