Course Description

Course Overview

This 5-day online CPD course equips counsellors and trainees with the knowledge and competence to begin working with children and young people (ages 4–18), aligned with Stage One of the BACP training curriculum. The course also provides 24 hours of CPD.

Course Content

If you’ve trained to work with adults, additional training is required before working safely and competently with children and young people.

This course provides a structured introduction to working with ages 4–18, aligned with Stage One of the BACP curriculum. Over five days, you will develop the foundational knowledge, skills, and awareness required to begin working with younger clients in a professionally responsible way.

You will explore key developmental, relational, and safeguarding considerations, alongside the differences between working with adults and younger clients. The course also supports you in building a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate competence, with additional input from MindEdMindEd are a UK-wide, government-backed e-learning resource supporting mental health training for those working with children and young people. training.

Following the course, you will complete a short independent assignment and continue developing your portfolio, supporting your progression into clinical work with children and young people.

Assessment

There is an end-of-course assessment to verify learning.

Monday–Friday, 9.30am–3.30pm.
There will be stretch breaks across the day with a 45-minute break for lunch.

    FAQ: Can I apply if I live abroad?

    Yes, you can apply. Location is not an eligibility issue for applying for our CPD courses, as long as you are able to attend online. Please bear in mind the time differences when considering the lecture schedule. Please also be mindful that our counselling training is based on UK legislation and professional practice. If you live in another country you will need to comply with local regulations.
