Waverley Abbey College offers both short and long term programmes, from teaching the very foundations of counselling, through to Higher Education programmes.

Programmes Overview

The BA and MA programmes equip students to work towards professional accreditation with a professional body, such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and/or the Association of Christian Counsellors, and also enable students to apply for registration on the Professional Standards Authority Voluntary Register (awarding accredited status is at the discretion of the professional body).

Our BA (Hons) Counselling programme offers training to the highest professional standards and prepares students for both ministry and a professional career in counselling.

If you do not meet the entry requirements for the BA (Hons), our Waverley Certificate in Christian Counselling provides an alternative route, which upon successful completion, provides a pathway to the BA (Hons) Year 2.

We offer two MA counselling qualifications. The MA Counselling is for those who already hold a degree in any subject, as well as a certificate in counselling, and are seeking to qualify as a counsellor. The MA Therapeutic Counselling and Psychotherapy (MA TCP) is for those who have already qualified, are in practice, and seek to deepen their understanding of counselling.

In addition to offering the MARCP in full, we also offer individual modules that can be studied on a university-registered or audit-only student programme.

Short Courses

If you want to find out whether a counselling profession is for you, we offer Introduction to Biblical Care and Counselling.

If you are a qualified counsellor and would like to broaden your professional development, then we would recommend studying the Certificate/Diploma in Counselling Supervision.

Waverley Abbey College submitted an annual return to the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) in December 2016 that demonstrates that it is continuing to maintain academic standards and enhance the quality of student learning opportunities and information about learning opportunities.
