This month, we were delighted to interview Libby, our 2019-20 Scholarship Student. Libby is currently studying on the BA (Hons) Counselling Programme.
‘I came to a WAC open day and Heather Churchill said that Waverley Abbey College aims to help you be the type of counsellor God wants you to be. This really resonated with me and I realised this was what I wanted, I didn’t want to have to fit into a standard mould.’
What difference has the course made to you?
‘At Waverley Abbey College there is such good quality input – both in the theoretical teaching and the practical application – the tutors know what they’re talking about! Alongside the theory, becoming a good counsellor involves intentionally examining your internal world (including your thoughts, feelings, stumbling blocks, childhood beliefs etc.). This level of self-reflection has been emotionally challenging, but Waverley Abbey College has provided a very safe and supportive place to undertake this.’
What difference did the scholarship make?
‘I didn’t get student finance for the course I applied for and then the college registry team told me about the Selwyn Hughes Scholarship; I applied and was successful! I am very grateful!’
