Covid Update for 2021/2022 New Academic Year

July 2021

We have enjoyed welcoming students back to face-to-face learning this month and anticipate being able to continue offering our relational face-to-face teaching to students on-site in the new academic year, subject to government guidelines around Covid restrictions.

While we all hope that the worst of the pandemic crisis will be behind us by September, we do need to consider the possibility that social distancing measures will be in place for the start of the new academic year or re-introduced during the course of the year. Government guidance has been changing regularly, so we have reviewed our facilities and, taking note of the current need for social distancing, we have made decisions about the delivery of our programmes and bedroom accommodation in order to offer the best student experience. This will be reviewed as we are hopeful that lockdown restrictions will be lifted in the next few months. Feedback from our current students has confirmed that the Waverley experience, of being on-site, is very important – students prefer face-to-face teaching. Therefore, we plan to deliver teaching face to face from the beginning of the academic year, with limited online provision as required for exceptional situations, with the expectation that students will be in attendance at Waverley Abbey House, or at the Bradford Hub.

Over the last year, our academic and administrative teams swiftly adapted to the Covid lockdowns and as a college we are proud to say that our students received unbroken delivery of their programmes as we immediately enabled teaching to be delivered via online live lectures, mirroring the face-to-face timetables closely. We are very grateful to our dedicated college teams who enabled this transition. Having successfully delivered our programmes via online, blended (face-to-face or online) and face-to-face over this last year, we are confident that, if the need arises, we will be able to respond to any sudden need to adapt our teaching delivery mode, due to a change in Covid guidelines in the future.

We are maintaining strict Covid protocols on-site; asking all to wear masks, allow social distancing space, follow the one-way systems, use hand sanitising products regularly and asking all staff and students to perform lateral flow tests in line with government guidelines. Currently limited single occupancy accommodation is available at Waverley Abbey House, until we can make use of our shared en-suite facilities.

We continue to work alongside our partners and governing bodies during this time, and we will provide updates with any new or relevant information.

We hope to welcome you soon to Waverley Abbey House.
